What Is O-Pee-Chee Hockey?

O-Pee-Chee (OPC) has long been a long-time staple in the hockey card collecting community and has been a renowned one since the 1970s and 1980s.

The O-Pee-Chee Hockey is an NHL licensed product released almost every year by Upper Deck after it acquired O Pee Chee in 2007.

Its Marquee Rookie cards, while not as valuable as the popular Young Guns, still are highly sought after by collectors.

The base set comprises 600 cards, including a separate bunch of 40 2023-24 All-Star cards (#500-540) and 60 2024-25 Marquee Rookies (#541-600). The look and feel are quite old school, with a one-line title at the top or bottom that describes the player’s name as well as the team’s.

The Base set of the 2024-25 O-Pee-Chee Hockey has an ALL-NEW hobby-exclusive Orange Border Parallel (#’d/25), which are randomly inserted in hobby boxes.

One of the biggest appeals of OPC is its colorful variety of parallels leasing out the players from the base set. The 2024-25 release brings back several popular ones, including:

Talking about colorful, the set also has a bunch of Rainbow parallels (All Hobby-Exclusive) catering to the bright side of the set. It only features the 2023-24 All-Star and the 2024-25 Marquee Rookie players from the base set. The set uses foilboard and has numbered variations:

Memorabilia: From Player to You

The OPC Hockey set also has space for manufactured patch sets in the checklist. This includes:

• First Round Draft Patches (1:192 Hobby packs)—As the name describes, the set offers manufactured patches from the first-round drafts of players like Connor Bedard and Jack Hughes.
• Team Logo Update (1:576 Hobby packs)—features logo-manufactured patches depicting important events in the team’s history. For instance, Nashville Predators 25th Anniversary.

Other Insert Sets

The 2024-25 O-Pee-Chee Hockey features 10 insert subsets. In order to make the set more premium, the OPC Hockey is back with the O-Pee-Chee Premier featuring the top rookies and veterans of the game. It comes with a Hobby-Exclusive parallel, the Diamond Rainbow parallel numbered to 75.

In order to make the set more exciting, the hobby set has a 9-card Top Rookie Bounty Puzzle subset. In turn, the collectors will be awarded the Top Rookie Bounty Award, which also has variants such as Black Border (#’d/100) and Autograph (#’d/25).
